The UN estimated that over 1 billion people do not have access to clean water. This is a global concern and a core Sustainable Development Goal. (Non)-Availability of water has a ripple effect on health, environment, education and poverty.
ShapersKano have been taking giant strides in achieving the 6th sustainable development goal of ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by delivering clean and sustainable water to rural communities across Kano State to aid the communities’ basic water needs of drinking, cooking and cleaning.
In 2014, the hub constructed a borehole at Yantoye Village, Warawa local government and Kurna Dankaza town in Wudil local government. The hub had also organize awareness sessions on the importance of clean water and sanitation. The hub also collaborates with WAFSLI (Water for Sustainable Living Initiative), an NGO based in Nigeria that aims to provide clean water to rural communities that lack access to it. It also orients residents of rural communities on the importance of hygiene and sanitation.
