The Hub in its quest to foster teamwork and self-development among its members organized what happens to be its first retreat. The event included among other things team bonding activities, presentations and induction of new members.
It took place on Saturday the 2nd of February, 2019 at Avenue Event Services, Gashash road, Kano State. With averagely 20 Shapers in attendance, it began with an opening prayer by outgoing deputy curator Abu Mongonu followed by an opening remark from our amiable founding curator who is also the Special Adviser on New Media and Communications to the State Government. He spoke particularly to the new shapers about who global Shapers are, what they do and the opportunities for excellence. He also highlighted briefly how Kano Hub came in to being and the achievements thus far.
After the speech came the first icebreaker – the human spiderweb, a team bonding activity which saw shapers connecting with each other; having fun and at the same time eating the various delicacies available. It left us all knowing each other even more and with big smiles.
A presentation was made by the outgoing curator Abubakar Bunza on the benefits of being a Shaper. It helped incoming shapers develop a better understanding of what they signed up for.
Just before lunch break, our former curator Mahmood Salisu gave another presentation on the hub structure. The event continued with renewed energy and enthusiasm after lunch and prayers.
The CEO of KDC Platform, Khalifa Dankadai delivered another presentation titled ‘Scaling the impact of social enterprise’. It was a very interactive session with everyone sharing their experiences and learning more.
Next on the agenda was the induction and welcoming of our 11 new shapers, followed by a round table discussion moderated by the deputy curator, Halima Halilu; the Curator, Ahmad Shuaibu; and the outgoing Curator, Abubakar Bunza. Pain-points where discussed and suggestions were made on improving the hubs efficiency.
The team had another team bonding activity –game of charades. Like the previous one, it was full of laughter and joy. As always believed, we are family.
Mastura A. Baba, the hub’s financial secretary presented the financial report for the year and we closed with an opening prayer again, by Abubakar Mongonu. Pictures and more interactions followed after.
It was really a retreat to remember, memories shared and made and certainly a stronger bond and effective impacts to be made going forward.
