On the 23rd of March 2013, the Kano Global Shapers launched its first project as a hub, the guidance and counseling project by visiting the Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa which is an all-boys senior secondary school located about 10km from Kano Metropolis. Nine members of the hub were present and arrived at the school around 10:07am and were warmly received by the Principal and some students. Thereafter the entire students, over 800, were assembled in the school hall and the Principal gave a brief introduction from where the Curator of the Hub gave background information about the Global Shapers, World Economic Forum and then the project.
The first speaker Kabeer Rabiu, a Software Engineer addressed the students on Information Technology (IT). He talked about various fields under computer science and IT. He stressed the importance and need for specialists in those areas and he advised the students on requirements for going into the field and also recommended Universities.
The second address was made by Dr. Zainab Mahmoud, she spoke about choosing careers and the importance of following interests and passion. She also talked about medicine as a career and finished off by stressing the importance of education regardless of your future career. The third speaker, Ahmad Yusuf who is a Business Administrator and Entrepreneur spoke about entrepreneurship. He highlighted the advantages of being independent and also encouraged students that were business oriented to go after their passion. He however advised them on the need and importance of education even if they do go into private enterprise.

Finally there was a Question and Answer session where some excellent questions were received and answered. The hub also promised to keep in touch with the school and act as mentors for the students.
